i guess this answers your question on what tumblr is :)
youmightfindyourself:

So somewhere in the past few days I passed the 5000 followers mark and failed to notice/acknowledge due to my busy dance card. It’s quite an achievement for a site with no clear direction, rhyme or reason. I’m not sure how I would even explain the website to someone. What seems troubling to me though and has been on my mind for quite some time is that a lot of people are discarding their traditional blogs in favor of the fast-paced reblog hustle of Tumblr.
All of a sudden production has gone down and consumption has gone up.
You might say, “Well you’re a hypocrite. All you do is collect internets ephemera all day!”
Not true. The site is merely a shoebox to collect inspiration, which then feeds into my creative work and beyond. I make things.
If you write, write! If you’re a photographer, get out there and shoot!
I suppose this sentiment could be applied to journal-writing. Since I have your ear, I might as well dive into that as well. Tumblr/Twitter isn’t meant to replace journals or personal blogs. I get e-mails from really impressionable teens telling me how cool their site is, if I have time if I could plug their blog, etc. All of a sudden there’s an endless sea of sites all homogenized by what’s trending on (insert popular site here) and influenced by groupthink.
What happened to the simple tale about the slings and arrows of growing up? Who cares if you only have 6 followers? It’s important you get those thoughts out, and that they’re your own.
Right?

  9. misterandre answered: Agreed. But I thought tumblr is a blog. At least that’s what I try to use it for. I’ve got the internet-world all wrong!
